“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh” (Romans 8:12). We don’t owe our flesh anything. Our flesh does not deserve a cookie. I saw a commercial the other night where the person was looking at the dessert counter in a grocery store and her rationalization for buying something was ‘I deserve it’. First, your body doesn’t deserve it, and second, don’t use food as a reward. When your eyes see something such as a donut, you don’t have to take it. You don’t owe your senses anything. You don’t have to congratulate your eyes for seeing the donut. Your flesh will try to convince your will to cave in just this one time. After all how often are you near a Cinnabons counter? Maybe you won’t pass this way again. I have found this temptation strong when on a trip…I may never come back here to the Hersey factory here in Hersey, Pennsylvania. No, you don’t owe your body anything that isn’t helpful to your weight loss journey.
