“Research reported in The American Journal of Gastroenterology showed that excess body weight increases a person’s risk of GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) symptoms. In this study, obese people (defined as a body mass index greater than 30) were 2.5 times more likely to have reflux symptoms or esophageal erosions than people with “normal” BMI’s (between 18.5 and 24.9). They were also nearly three times more likely to develop esophageal cancer than those with a healthy body weight. Even a small amount of weight loss can help decrease GERD symptoms.”
Here is yet another reason to lose weight. I guess I didn’t know all the problems other than the obvious that obesity can cause. The reasons are rather widespread though body’s health systems. I have had problems with this myself. Some of it goes away with a good diet.
Eating some foods at night exacerbates the problem. Things like pizza or ribs can cause it for me. So I’m an early eater. Okay enough with the early bird special jokes. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with getting to the restaurant early and getting a good deal. Most of us seniors have flexible schedules (Is that a nice way of saying we don’t have anything to do anyway.) and besides we go to bed early.
I have the bed blocked up, so my head is slightly higher. Now that I realize this I make this problem worse by being overweight, it’s another reason to get the weight off.
