Speaking of walking on the edge all the time, here is an interesting study. “According to a devastating new study published in the journal Obesity and written up in a widely shared article by the New York Times last week, only one of the 14 Biggest Loser contestants studied weighs less today than when the competition wrapped. Four of them are now heavier than before they went on the show.” The problem researchers say, is the contestants’ metabolisms, which slowed down dramatically as they lost weight. If you do a search on Biggest Loser contestants and how they are doing, you will see many if not most are struggling. We’ve known for decades that profound, sudden weight loss can throw the brakes on metabolism. Metabolism by definition is the chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life. The diet industry wants to try to speed up the processes in order to burn fat more quickly. Messing with the body’s natural functions such as heavy exercise and low food intake can actually hurt the metabolism even breaking it.
