“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). Speaking of power to help us through our daily diet, we also have the power of the Holy Spirit. He helps us overcome lust of the flesh. Lust is any inordinate desire. All of us who diet on a regular basis in order to get that stubborn fat off know that food has become in many ways an excessive desire. Anything that goes wrong in life is a reason to head for the food. It is both comfort and solace in times of trouble and anxiety. That is walking in the flesh. That is giving into the screams of the body for food to fix the problem. By the way, I have never seen food fix anything, except overeating. What’s the cure to walking in the flesh? Allowing the Spirit power over our thoughts and will is to walk in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is in every believer. We are temples of the Holy Spirit. He dwells in us. So when we walk in the Spirit, we will not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh.
