We’ve been running a series on berries. Berries are one of the foods we can have that’s on “The Plan.” We put strawberries in our smoothie. We also can put blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or a mixed berry which we get at Trader Joe’s frozen section.
I think it’s interesting that different fruit like the strawberry have taken on spiritual connotations.
“The strawberry is a berry that is attached to many positive things through symbolism and folklore. The flowers and berries together symbolize righteousness and spiritual merit in Christian art. The structure of the leaves, being trifoliate, represents the trinity.”
Though much is superstition and folklore, it is interesting that there are little reminders of God in creation.
One of the symbols of the strawberry is perfect righteousness. Since only Jesus is perfect, it is a symbol of what Jesus has done for us. I Christ we also are perfect and we have His righteousness. We are righteous because of Jesus.
The heavens declare the glory of God. God’s glory is how He thinks about things. We fall short of the glory because we don’t think like God does about things. We are concerned about sin. He doesn’t remember your sins. They are forgiven. We are concerned that we will make Him mad if we don’t behave correctly. God is never mad at us. Jesus took all of God’s righteous anger and wrath upon Himself. There is none left for us. Those are just a few of the ways God really thinks. Religion has messed it up.
I also thought it interesting that the strawberry is in the shape of a heart. The heart is an important part of Biblical teaching. The strawberry is just one reminder that the heart is so important because out of it flow the issues of life.
So, when you’re eating your fresh strawberries, think of how they remind you of God’s grace and love.
