Many diets will try to get around the sustainability problem by calling it a “lifestyle” change. Of course it’s a lifestyle change. You were gaining weight, now you are on a diet to lose weight. Yes, we have to make some lifestyle changes. Yes, there we have to make a mindset change. At some point in the eating plan, we have to say that on whatever plan I decide it’s one I can stick to forever.
There is no finish line for the dieter. If you have any problem with gaining weight by overeating, then you will always have that problem unless something can get into your head and change your thinking about food.
We all must make choices for everything we eat. And I find that the easier the choice, the easier the diet. If you insist (or I insist) on eating five $0.59 tacos at 130 calories each, I’m going to have to plan the rest of the day around those 650 calories. Or I’m going to have to say no to $0.59 tacos. Do I even want to say no? Or am I going to have to walk for 5 miles to compensate?
