“Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work” (John 4:34 NKJV). What really sustained Jesus was to know He was doing the will of the Father and working on completing the work He was there to do. We could write a great deal on what was the will of the Father and His work for Jesus, but this is a health website and I just want to look the word “food” or as the King James Version says “meat.” It’s interesting that Jesus called this His food, doing the will of the Father. He didn’t use my goal, or my mission, or my vision, or my command. He used the metaphor of eating. The root word is to eat. For us dieters, food is an important thing. It is almost a consuming thing to eat right in order to see weight loss. Jesus, of course, was talking about spiritual food but it does tie into real food. I think Jesus was saying that to do the will of the Father and complete His work is even more important that eating. It was His sustenance. It was how He focused more on the really important tasks than just the physical eating. It reminds us that weight loss is important, but other things are more important.
