If you are going to diet, you are going to have to become very familiar with the word “no.” Of course, you are going to have to say no to temptations, and they are everywhere. Whenever we go to my daughter’s business Revolution Holistic in Holly Springs, Georgia, we pass a place called Alpine Bakery. It is a high-end bakery with cakes, candy, breakfast pastries, and cupcakes. We stopped there once and bought a couple cupcakes. Every time we pass it, the cake calls, but we just have to say no. It seems like every place we go there is some temptation near, lingering in the background calling out our names. The operative word is no—no thanks. I worked too hard to let up now.
Besides tempting eats around, there is the mental battles we fight. We dredge up excuses (which we are talking about this year). We begin to wish we weren’t on diets, that we didn’t have to skip the bakeries, and that we could buy something besides fruit and vegetables. We have to catch ourselves and just say no, no, no. No whining, no excuses, and definitely no quitting. We are in this for the long haul. So put the word “no” in your diet vocabulary.
