Judy Halliday in her book Thin Within talks about a “path of your performance.” We have talked about paths before. The narrow path leads to weight loss success. Other paths don’t. If you get on the path of performance, you think it’s up to you to diet. The harder you try the more successful you will be. If you are not a believer, that’s all you have. But Christians don’t have to get on that path. That’s the lonely path which leads to failure. We already know we can’t diet on our own. And we know that God is not impressed with your performance. He is impressed with faith. Faith is trusting in His abilities not in your abilities. Dieting is extremely hard. That’s why we have to rely on His grace. Performance equals self. Self looks to self rather than God. The self-way is the hard way. God will just stand back and say go for it. And when the going gets tough He won’t say I told you so, but He will draw you back from the self-pit and into a place of provision through His riches. God has everything you need to succeed.
