The Bible has advice on many issues. I found this verse on portion control. “Feed me with food convenient for me.” (Proverbs 30:8)
It doesn’t mean convenience store food. Nor does it mean fast food or food that is quick to make. It literally means “food of my prescription or portion.”(Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words)
To me, it’s not only saying that we should have portion sizes that fit us, but the food should fit our needs. That’s the diet. I have found that the calories allotted for me on most calorie sites are too high. They don’t take into account my age. I can tell that I just can’t eat as much today as I could when I was younger. I think that’s our bodies saying we don’t need so many calories. There is a portion that is right for me.
I still need to lose weight, so I must reduce my portion a bit, in order to have a deficit of calories each week. We need to come up short by 3500 calories just to lose one pound. Ideally, I want to lose two pounds a week.
I’m still tracking my calories to discover that ideal portion, which allows me to lose, yet still maintain my health. 2500 calories a day is not going to do it.
In addition, I must find the right prescription of foods that are needful to me. That’s the diet itself. It must have the right nutrients as well as the proper macronutrients to still build a healthy body, but lose weight at the same time.
That makes up the food that is convenient for me. So our prayer is Lord to feed me on food that is right for me. In His Lord’s Prayer, Jesus said we are to pray for our daily bread or food. We can also add that the food will be convenient for me. It will match my needs in the portions that allow me to lose weight in a healthy way.
