Excuse – the expiration date was tomorrow. Now some of us hate to waste food. We would rather eat it since we paid for it. What do you mean expiration date? For you, normal food you are only going to see a sell-by date which is found on perishables like meat, seafood, poultry and milk. The date is a guide for stores to know how long they can display a particular product. Most stores keep up on those dates and remove the product. The other date is “use by” or “best if used by” and you will generally find on shelf-stable products. This can easily last longer.
That said, it’s the excuse to eat up something. The ice cream says best if used by tomorrow, so you think you have a ready excuse to overeat. Not going to work. Our son tends to let things go too long many times. He doesn’t like eating the same thing so a half-opened package of something will sit in the fridge to the point you have to smell it to see if it’s any good. If in doubt, throw it out. Watch your food dates and plan ahead to use them before this becomes a problem and turns into an overeating excuse.
