Excuse – Just one won’t hurt. Boy, how many times have I said that? This is a weight loss dieter’s nightmare. Back in 1983, Lay’s Potato Chips came out with that saying, “Betcha can’t eat just one.” This was in reference to their potato chips. Of course, you can’t eat just one. Why would you open a bag and eat just one? That put over the airwaves the thinking most dieters had about food in general. No, we can’t eat just one cookie. No, we can’t eat just one slice of pizza. That’s why we are overweight. It all begins with one—chip, cookie, donut, or whatever.
Yes, just one will hurt. I have found through many years of observation and experience that eating something that is not on the diet will lead to a slippery slope of diet failure. You eat a few cookies and then you say well, I can be very good tomorrow. Some say the restriction is the problem. If you say you can’t have cookies, then that is what you want most. So eat one they say. They don’t know the dieter as they should. The weight challenged are weight challenged because they can’t eat just one.
A weight loss diet by its definition means you have to avoid some things that have made you overweight. You have to develop a new mindset of thinking.
