“It’s my birthday.” Well it’s not mine, but birthdays are another day where you might be tempted to overdo and sidetrack your diet. I know, they only come once a year. So does every holiday, relatives birthday, and office Christmas party. Once a year is a quick way to sabotage your whole weight loss journey.
Okay, a birthday is another milestone in your life. It is a cause of celebration and a great time to thank God for another year of life. There are ways to celebrate without overeating. Maybe go out to a dinner at a place you like and stay on plan—maybe a small steak, asparagus, ½ baked potato, and small side salad. Leave off the toppings and just enjoy the day. You might be able to have a bite or two of cake. The problem with indulging any more is that it is a slippery slope to diet disaster. I have personally found that a bite of cake, for example, lowers my guard, and I eat the whole piece of cake. Maybe I don’t gain, maybe I do a little, but it throws off my diet for a few days. Be careful what you eat, even if it is your birthday.
