“I love food too much.” I think this is one of the most common excuses and one of the most difficult to overcome. In his book, If My Body Is a Temple, Then I Was a Megachurch, Scott Davis in his struggles with obesity came to the conclusion that he just loved food. I was just about to say that I know of no one who hates food, but doing a search reveals there are some who actually hate food. But they have a whole set of different problems. Most of us weight challenged folk love to eat. I love to go to church potlucks and try out different pots of food. I like a chili cook-off and try new chili styles. I love the dessert bar at Golden Corral or Ryan’s. I love Italian, Mexican, Chinese, comfort foods, fast food, and the Jewish deli. That’s the plight of those of us who are trying to stay on a diet. When I drive out of my subdivision and head for the freeway, there are tons of eating places all tugging and my genuine love for food. But I have to stifle it if I’m going to lose weight. I can substitute some of those foods in a more calorie friendly way and help my cause. But it will always be something looming in the background ready to pounce.
