Today is Tax day this year. The 15th is on a Saturday and the 17th is the Emancipation Day holiday, so the last day to file taxes is today. What does that have to do with excuses? Maybe nothing, unless you use it as an excuse to cast off the diet in order to prepare your taxes—lots of coffee and donuts. As a possible excuse goes that’s not what I want to talk about today or is it write about today. We discussed Bogos and this excuse is like that. “But it’s free,” or as in the case of buffets, the more you eat the less it costs. This free food shows up now and then when you are dieting. We all like free. I always look at the free samples at Trader Joe’s when we go. There is a Peanut Shop in Williamsburg that puts out free samples. Fudge shops are always luring you in with the promise of free samples. Conferences and work meetings have their share of free food around. But free when dieting could come with hidden costs. It will slow progress and even temporarily stall it. And as I have found often than not, it sends you down a slippery slope to getting off track. So beware of free and stick to the plan.
