We have looked a little at emotional eating. Most people live by their emotions. Dieters eat by their emotions. SparkPeople as a category of teams for emotional eaters. At the last time I looked there were 914,791 people on those teams. Emotional eating is definitely a problem. Here’s one quote that is typical of emotional eating. “So much emotional eating with my husband’s job loss and other factors. That emotional eating didn’t fix a thing. Not a single thing.” She analyzed the results of emotional eating correctly. It may temporarily sooth the feelings but it doesn’t change anything. There are all kinds of tricks to try to overcome emotional eating. None of them work for very long such as the three bite rule. Take three bites and ask yourself if this is emotional or hunger. If emotional, stop eating. It might last once or twice, but the answer will always be ‘I’m hungry’. Emotional eating requires emotional healing. We have to get to the root and chop it off.
