Negative thoughts can cause negative emotions. Depression, anxiety, despair, and frustration to name just a few are common for many dieters. That’s part of both the dieting problem and the reasons which caused the weight problem in the first place. Fighting negative emotions is more difficult because emotions are thoughts that weren’t cast down and are now breeding reactions that affect the emotions. These thoughts may not be directly related to the dieting process. A person might have had a traumatic experience such as an accident or a run in with the boss resulting in a disciplinary action or even job loss. That person then goes home all upset and the diet takes the hit. After all, the thinking goes, I deserve better so I’m going to take it out on myself by overeating. When negative emotions surface, you must bring down and destroy those imaginations even when you don’t feel like it.
