Does habit really keep you going when it comes to dieting? You have probably heard that it takes 28 days to make a new habit. Of course that’s nonsense. Some people take 27 or 30, lol. A new study by the University College about trying to learn new habits such as eating fruit daily or going jogging took a depressing 66 days before the behavior had become automatic and some took 18 days, others 245 days. There are no magic number of days to learn a new habit to the point it becomes automatic. It’s not like logging into your computer where you just automatically put in the password. We are talking about dieting and weight loss habits. They just don’t come that easy, and they go easier. If it takes you three weeks to get up each morning, put on your walking shoes and go out to walk, one bad morning and the habit is gone. Same is true about eating. You eat one egg, toast, and grapefruit, for three weeks and one day a friend shows up with bagels. You eat the bagel, no more habit. I think motivation starts you and motivation sustains you and you may have to get that motivation from deep with your spirit. Weight loss diets just don’t run on habit.
