When you get deep into a diet, then you are doing hard time. It doesn’t get easier, it gets harder. This is the meantime. That’s when you really have to have an anchor firmly fixed in something besides your willpower. If you are several weeks into a diet, your willpower is gone. That’s a problem, and that’s when most dieters quit.
We have said it over and over that dieting is hard and to be successful you must have a way to overcome the hard times. Some dieters rely on friends on a diet website. SparkPeople for example, has a lot of helps for dieters and has lots of specialized teams for encouragement. It helps but these are virtual friends. They aren’t with you when you need to make a quick decision. In fact, most of them are struggling just like you are and can only sympathize with your problems. They understand but they haven’t found an answer to their struggles either. All the help comes from platitudes and pats on the back. The problem is inside you.
The answer has to come from within. Something within you has to push you on. Something within you has to help you see that your losing weight is important. If you reach a point where it’s not important, then you will fail. Losing weight has to be a high priority. That means you must stick to the plan regardless. The strength to do that comes from within you if you are a Christian. You have the power of God within. You have the mind of Christ within you. You can do all things not through your strength but through Christ empowering you to do it.
This is grace. Grace enables you to overcome. His grace is more than sufficient for you to do anything, even losing weight. When the flesh begins to scream because you aren’t over-feeding it, then you calm the screams of the flesh by walking in the power of the Spirit. Continue to renew the mind with the Word of God. Pull down imaginations that try to throw your life into chaos. Everything you need has been already provided by the finished work of the cross. Health, wholeness, and longevity are all promises of the Word through Jesus. In Christ you have the ability to succeed. Tap into the power within and tap into God’s amazing grace.
