Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility, and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence” (Colossians 2:20–23). Don’t look at your diet as just bunch of rules. Believers, you are free from the law and are now under grace. If your diet plan has restrictions, and it should, then look at that not as the rules of the diet but as the way of escape. You need to lose weight. You need a path to successful weight loss. That is the path God has provided as a way of escaping the temptations of dieting and the laws of weight loss. Turn your plan over to God and let Him lead you. He guides into green pastures—that’s where we eat. Restrictions are ways we can correct our bad habits and create new good habits.
