I began talking about maintaining your weight after you reach your goal. This is not a time to relax your eating habits and go back to your old ways. You have learned a great deal about what it takes to lose weight and that same knowledge will help you maintain it. Enter the scale. Yes, I’ve talked a lot about the scale in past blogs. Yes, most dieters have a love-hate relationship with it, but it is the best method for maintenance because it quickly shows you if you need to back off what you are eating. If you go up a couple of pounds and it isn’t temporary and stays with you, then you are no longer at your goal weight and have to make some temporary dieting to get it back. You don’t want to lose ground. The diet is still on for you. It’s just not to lose weight but to maintain your weight loss. This means adjusting you diet daily to the ebb and flow of life. If you go to a birthday party and eat cake, then you must balance that out in the total daily calories.
