Emotions are one of the most difficult obstacles to a successful diet journey. Some people have a hard time distinguishing hunger which is a physical sensation and feelings which is an emotional sensation. One author calls it the difference between real hunger and false hunger. Ideally we should eat only when we are hungry. So any desire to eat other than when we are truly hungry is emotional eating. Something inside you says to grab a brownie or open a sack of potato chips. (By the way, overweight or obese people shouldn’t have these temptations around.) Experts say there are six emotions that drive the human. They are happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise, and disgust. You can see how each of those might fit into the dieting journey. In the next few days we will look at these in light of the weight loss journey.
