I’m not sure what we thought the Florida Keys would be like. When you see TV views, it’s always driving over the water on a narrow bridge. But there is very little of that. There is one seven mile section like that and a few bridges but a lot of it is connected by land. In fact, Marathon is a large city. But you are never far from water. Another myth I always thought was these keys are small. I could see several people huddled together to keep from falling off. Not so. There are several large keys, with all the amenities of a regular city. But never far is the idea of water. We went to Key West on Wednesday. It’s huge. It has bad traffic. It’s congested. Parking is expensive. We spent $4 for an hour of parking and decided we didn’t like the place and got out of there. Further out from the downtown area it’s much like every other town with its shopping areas and fast food restaurants with plenty of free parking. If you are a lover of the Keys, I’m sorry but I’m not on your bandwagon. The water is pretty, but no real beach. If you like doing things on the water, there is plenty of ways to spend money. Overall, not my favorite place. But we can say we’ve been here.
