When it comes to losing weight, you have lots of choices. There are a myriad of diets available. There are a numerous foods that are considered diet. There are many exercises and walking plans too numerous to mention them all. The problem is that they are choices. And “therein lies the rub” as Hamlet might say.
With choices must come decisions. Can it get worse? Lots of things can hamper decisions. Temptations, tiredness, cravings, worry, and stress can twist the decision or postpone it. All the choices make the decisions more difficult.
That’s why you have to make the choices ahead of time. Successful dieting means you have a plan and stick to it. You make the decisions ahead of time when you aren’t tired or stressed. You make your shopping list—your choices—ahead of time. Then when things come along that might hinder your decision-making process, you just stay the course on your previously made decisions.
When you see a commercial on TV for a delicious looking hamburger, instead of running out and getting it, you stick to your snack plan—celery and hummus. You already made the choice so don’t change the choice.
There is a reason behind not having that many choices. It keeps you from bogging down in all the possible selections to make. Before I met Charlene, she could make a meatloaf and eat it all week. That definitely reduced the number of choices to make. The more choices to make, the more confusing it becomes. The diet we are on has a relative small number of food picks. However, even with a few foods to choose from, you can make a wide variety of meals.
Many diets try to make your diet seem like it has few restrictions. Restrictions, they say, will make you not want to lose weight. Some say just eat regular food but just eat less of it. That is all failure waiting to happen. The thing is this, most of us dieters will have to diet the rest of our lives. So we need to make changes now that will enable us to lose weight and keep it off. I didn’t realize how many times I made wrong choices and wondered why I didn’t lose weight. Taking a small container of cookie bites and eating the whole thing. Not a huge amount of calories, but enough to stop any weight loss, and enabled my body to save fat.
We all have choices and they are very important to successful weight loss. Just make the right choice and stick to it.
