Today is a special day on the Christian calendar. It is Easter Sunday. Regardless of any controversy about the origin, dates, etc., we celebrate Easter as the resurrection of Jesus.
This is important because the resurrection ratifies the cross. If Jesus just died on the cross, never to be heard from again, we wouldn’t have the certainty of the finished work on the cross. The fact of the resurrection proves the fact of the cross. The best has happened and it is made real through the resurrection of Jesus from the grave.
“13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen: 4And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain” (1 Corinthians 15:13-14).
This is how important this day is. If it had not occurred, then Jesus was just a good man and the cross really had no effect on life. The Bible is clear, however, about the efficacy of the resurrection. Jesus did rise from the grave and He did finish the work the Father sent Him to do. That is our blessed hope.
