Boredom If you’re doing the same thing every time you work out, you will condition your body to coast through the exercise. Your body gets use to the exercises and it doesn’t have to work so hard. In a sense, your body gets bored. When your body gets bored, you get bored.
Boredom also plays a big role in success or failure of your weight loss program. Few people can do the same thing repeatedly each day and be satisfied with it. I’ve read of people who just go out each morning for a walk and that makes them happy. Others would be bored with the same walk each day.
I’m a person who is easily bored. I do my exercises for several weeks. I don’t look forward to exercise anyway, but I do it because I know it’s good for me. When you exercise at home with dumbbells, you have limited exercises. I do upper body on Mondays and Fridays. I exercise my core on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I finally I do lower body on Wednesdays. I do two sets each 12 reps of 10 different exercises. I use the no rest between exercise types method. Therefore, I don’t spend a long time.
I also get bored with eating plans. I’m doing better than I did in my younger years. I can prepare a 12-serving recipe and eat it for six days. We do soup like that and maybe chili. I often may out a menu and use the menu for several weeks making only minor changes.
Dieting by its nature is boring. Boredom is our enemy. With as much variety in the world, you might think we could keep from getting bored. We play out a lot of our life doing monotonous and often tedious things. Yet even in that we should find some relief from boredom.
That’s why God made challenges. Challenge your thinking when it comes to your weight loss efforts. If a daily walk in the same old place makes you bored, then try different places. If you can’t afford to drive to different places, make games of your walk. Count your steps and go one more the next day. Watch for birds or animals. Look at flowers, trees and other plants. We are bored because we want to be. If we didn’t want to be bored we would do something about it.
