I picked up Bob Harper’s Book “The Skinny Rules.” It’s one of his latest diet books. One thing I like about it is that there isn’t several chapters of science stuff trying to persuade me do to the diet. He has 20 rules. I’ll be going through those rules and commenting on them probably in October.
But wait! He has another book out which is his “Jumpstart to Skinny.” This a three-week jumpstart diet. He has 13 rules for doing that diet. As He says, hey, it’s only three weeks. Anyone can do three weeks. I’m starting that diet now. Charlene and I started this jumpstart diet on May 25. Today as I’m actually writing, it is Memorial Day. I did a cheat meal for lunch. Oh well. There are no cheat meals on the jumpstart diet. There is one on his Skinny Rules diet.
I thought I’d list the rules here. I only have problems with two rules. Rule number 7 uses his jumpstart moves. They are too intense for a senior. Therefore, I modified those.
Number 1 would be difficult if you didn’t follow his recipes and menus. I had to make some modifications for the first week as I’d already purchased food for the week. I made it as close as possible. He eat tons of egg whites which aren’t our favorites.
We take an electrolyte packet I got at the health food store. It just happens to be the one Bob recommends. It doesn’t make me gag but I drink it fast. Tastes like Alka–Seltzer.
Instead of espresso in rule 13, we drink black coffee. Therefore, I’ll tell you how it’s going. After these three weeks, we shift to the Skinny Rules. The third week we will be in Florida on the beach, so there may be more cheat days. LOL. Maybe the next time I need a jumpstart, I’ll do it between trips.
Jumpstart to Skinny Rules:
1. Proper Proportions 40/40/20
2. Cut back calories and then cut back again
3. No complex carbs after breakfast
4. Drink more water
5. Get your electrolytes
6. Do 45 minutes low intensity cardio-preferably before breakfast
7. 5x/week do 15-20 minutes of “Jumpstart Moves”
8. Cut the Salt
9. Take daily fish oil
10. Fall back on veggies
11. No fruit in week 3
12. No booze
13. An espresso/coffee a day or 2 or 3!!
