Continuing today with another fad diet slogan. These are tips to help you in critiquing a diet or product.
2. “You can easily lose weight without dieting or exercising!”
This saying has caught many dieters in the snare of foolery.
Two things jump out at me. First, the word easy. It’s a rare person who finds losing weight easy. I know in my younger years that I could lose weight easier than I do now. But it’s never easy. Eating less than your body is screaming for is not easy. Eating carrot sticks instead of Little Debbie snack cakes is not easy. Finding some exotic oil your diet is asking for, is not easy. Doing your careful meal planning and checking your calories is not easy.
Nothing about dieting is easy.
Let’s face it—permanent weight loss takes work, effort, time, and patience.
The second word that pops out at me is the word “without.” I don’t know how to lose weight without diet and exercise. These are the two things you must control if you expect to lose weight. I do know there are some gadgets out there that you just wear around your waist and electrical impulses are supposed to dissolve the fat. Other supplements allow you to eat normally and you will lose due to body chemistry changes.
Even if it is some exercise apparatus that’s supposed to be easy or used without effort, then turn the page or change the channel. Exercise requires time and hard work. A device that makes it easy probably won’t help. Now you might find a device which you like to use and that would be of some help. But generally, exercise isn’t fun.
Pass on any products that promise miraculous results without the effort. Buy one and the only things you’ll lose are money and confidence.
So if it says, “It’s so easy”, then toss that one out.
