Continuing today with another fad diet slogan. These are tips to help you in analyzing a diet or product.
11. Those convincing testimonials or success stories.
This is a hard one because it’s a matter of trust. Are they legit success stories? Most of the time we don’t know.
I watched a YouTube video that showed a body builder who had gained a little weight and didn’t look in that great of shape transform himself into a convincing testimonial. He just used some techniques that made his appearance totally different.
We can all look 10 pounds slimmer by standing up straight, shoulders back, and stomach in; having a good hair day; applying the right make-up; and hiring a professional photographer.
Do you see some of those before and after pictures? It looks like the only difference is that in the before they pushed out their stomach, stooped a little, didn’t smile, and had a messy hairdo. In the after picture they stood up straight, pulled in their stomach, combed their hair, and put on a big smile.
Many of the convincing testimonials are by body builders and models who don’t even use the product. Remember, just because you recognize the actor or actress, doesn’t make the product any more reliable.
I don’t much rely on testimonials. Sometimes I’ll check to see if any guys had success with a particular plan. Some plans are just for women. Sometimes I’ll check to see if any seniors had success. Usually you will see only young youthful types in the pictures.
As a writer, I know I could even write a story about a fictitious person who went from fat to slim, lost 159 pounds, and now is a personal trainer. So look at the success stories but don’t base your purchase on that alone.
